Zdrelac is a town on Pasman, one of the islands in the Zadar archipelago, which is connected with the town of Biograd by a ferryboat communication. It was named after a narrow passage, called Zdril, on whose end it is situated and which divides Zdrelac and Pasman islands. Zdrelac is situated on the intersection of sea routes for excursions to nearby islands and the Kornati archipelago. It is an attractive destination for boaters and water sports enthusiast.
Beautiful beaches and clean sea attract tourists and weekenders, which makes Zdrelac the most popular resort of the citizens of Zadar. Over the sea straits, dividing Zdrelac and Pasman islands, a 210 m long bridge was built in 1973. Next to it lies a big weekend cottage settlement.
A big cove next to the straits offers anchorage to numerous yachts sailing from land to Kornati. The island economy is based on agriculture, wine-growing, olive-growing, fishing and tourism. It is situated on the regional road.
Zdrelac was formed around the church of St. Luke. The name was first mentioned in 1397. Then in 1446 “Zdrelac” is mentioned as well as Banja hamlet on the furthest north and in 1555 there are sources mentioning “Zdrelac overo Bagno” and in 1668 “Zdrelac di Bagno”. The Italian form was also taken by fixed parish terminology of Zadar archbishopric in 1840.
